Nine Years in the Making

A serene landscape featuring a sunset over mountains with a lake reflecting the colors.

The Story

I started Northern Tropicals in 2014 because I was tired of seeing the same majesty palms at every garden center — plants that look great in June and die before Thanksgiving once you bring them inside for winter. Nobody was selling what zone 5 and 6 growers actually needed.

I sold my first palm in 2023. Nine years from idea to first sale. Everything I grow is seed-grown on the 5b/6a border in Saukville, Wisconsin, heated through the winter in my greenhouse, and documented along the way — the wins and the losses both.

This isn't a big operation and it's not trying to be. It's one grower who takes this seriously, ships carefully, and stands behind what he sends you.

Grow palms where they shouldn't survive:

Get weekly posts on cold-hardy palms, zone-pushing experiments, and what actually survives a northern winter. New subscribers get 10% off their first order.
